SPOTLIGHTS ON: Interview with Our PI on NASA’s Latest Mars Discovery

Dr. Merve Yeşilbaş, PI of the Yeşilbaş Lab, was recently interviewed by Forskning & Framsteg to share her perspective on NASA’s latest discovery from Jezero Crater on Mars, revealed by the Perseverance rover.

Our PI expressed that “What makes this finding so exciting is that Perseverance didn’t just uncover one clue, but several independent signs that together strengthen the case for possible biosignatures. This isn’t proof of life, yet, it is the most compelling evidence so far that Mars was once a habitable world. The next big step will be the Mars Sample Return mission, which will let us study these rocks with the most advanced tools on Earth. Whether the signals turn out to be biological or not, the discovery will transform how we understand both Mars and life in the universe.”

At the Yeşilbaş Lab, we are thrilled to contribute to this exciting era of Mars exploration through our research on mineral–water–organic interactions and biosignature detection.

🚀✨ Stay tuned on: Mars continues to surprise all of us!
