Bringing astrobiology to the public: our PI Merve’s outreach talk at Curiosum!
Are we alone?: Taking the big question to a curious public at Curiosum!
We are delighted to share that our PI Merve was invited to give a public outreach talk at Curiosum, Umeå University's science center, as part of their Curiosum Space series on May 21, 2026.
In her talk, delivered in English to an open audience of all ages, Merve took visitors on a journey into the world of astrobiology from the big question of whether we are alone in the universe, to the very concrete ways on how scientists search for traces of life on other worlds. Drawing on the work of the Yeşilbaş Lab, she shared how minerals, spectra, and microorganisms under extreme conditions help us read the chemical fingerprints of life, both here on Earth and beyond. 🌍🔬
Public events like this are close to our hearts. Bringing cutting-edge research out of the basement lab and into a room full of curious minds including families, students, and space enthusiasts alike is one of the most rewarding parts of what we do. Sparking that first moment of wonder about Mars and the search for life is how the next generation of scientists begins in STEM!
A warm thank you to the Curiosum team for the invitation and the wonderful audience for their curiosity and great questions! 🚀✨
