From asteroids to Mars: our PI's invited talk at the Swedish Chemical Society!
Tracing life's molecular building blocks from space rocks to the Red Planet!
We are proud to share that PI Merve Yeşilbaş was invited to give a talk at the Annual Meeting of the Swedish Chemical Society (Svenska Kemisamfundet) on 25 May 2026! Her presentation named "From Asteroids to Mars: Tracing the Delivery and Preservation of Life's Molecular Building Blocks", brought astrobiology to one of Sweden's most established chemistry communities. 🪐
The talk followed the molecular story of life's ingredients across the Solar System: how the organic building blocks of life may have been delivered to early planetary surfaces by asteroids and meteorites, and how those fragile molecules can be preserved or destroyed under harsh planetary conditions like those on Mars. It's a story that sits right at the intersection of chemistry, mineralogy, and planetary science, and it's exactly the kind of question that drives the Yeşilbaş Lab. 🔬🌍
Sharing this research with the wider chemistry community is always a privilege. The Swedish Chemical Society brings together chemists from across the country, and it was a wonderful opportunity to show how the tools of chemistry help us search for the origins and signatures of life beyond Earth.
